Bauer and Rosoff Prize for Excellence in Research

About the prize

An annual prize is awarded to a graduate student at the ZIWR for excellence in water research.

The ZIWR holds a prize-giving ceremony every academic year for the recipient students. The students, each, give a presentation of their research, before being awarded with their certificates.

Dates of previous prize-giving

ceremonies:

* 19 Nov. 2008
* 11 April 2007
* 17 Feb. 2005
* 28 Jan. 2004

About the donors

Miriam and Simon Bauer award the above prize in memory of their respective late fathers, Dr. Meyer L. Rosoff and the Rev. Benzion Bauer.

Meir Rosoff and Benzion Bauer were both "Hoveve Zion". They played an important role in developing orange plantations in Palestine in the late 1930s.

Even then, they understood the critical limitations of the soil due to decreasing water resources in the region, and realized that this would heavily influence the future development of the Land of Israel and settlement on its soil.

Prof. Simon Bauer, Professor of Biology at Cornell University, USA, and his wife Miriam, were led by their interest in science to investigate water issues. They decided to focus their philanthropic interests on this field, in the hope that water research will play a significant role in improving the development and settlement of Israel and the entire region.

In this way they are helping to perpetuate the vision of their fathers.
