Safety and Security

On Your Stay

Student safety and security is a priority of the staff of the OSP. BGU has an active and visible Security Division that is responsible for security throughout the University. Security guards are located at every campus entrance and at the university dormitories, which are patrolled 24 hours a day.

Upon arrival at the University, students receive a security orientation, which includes instructions on how they can best assure their own safety in Israel.

The Director of the OSP provides updated security briefings throughout the semester, with the input of the University's security division. The Director of the OSP is also in regular contact with the American Embassy concerning security in Israel and throughout the region. Students do not need to take buses for any regular university activity. Every study visit or excursion sponsored by the OSP must be approved by the University security division. All excursions are accompanied by an armed guard and a medic.

Students are requested to inform at least one member of the OSP staff of their whereabouts, if they are planning to travel out of Beer Sheva on weekends and holidays. If a student plans to travel abroad during a vacation period, a special form indicating their itinerary must be submitted to the OSP office.

OSP students are strongly encouraged to rent a cell-phone, enabling the OSP staff as well as students' families to reach them at all times. Information on cell-phone service is provided by the Office of Student Services prior to departure to Israel.
